The Efficacy of Chemotherapy against Metastatic Malignant Phyllodes Tumors of the Breast
نویسنده
چکیده
Phyllodes tumours are rare neoplasms of the female breast. Ten-year survival of 42% is reported after surgical treatment of malignant phyllodes tumours. Metastatic tumours have a poor prognosis with no long-term survival. We present the case history of a 43 year old woman with a pulmonary metastasis from a malignant phyllodes tumour of the breast treated with chemotherapy. The role of radiation therapy and chemotherapy is not established and has not been studied in randomized trials due to the rarity of the tumor. At present, there is no consensus that patients with high-grade phyllodes tumors of the breast will benefit from either of these modalities. *Corresponding author: Bourhafour mouna, Department of Medical Oncology, National Institute of Oncology, 10000 Rabat, Morocco, E-mail: [email protected] Received February 28, 2012; Accepted April 06, 2012; Published April 18, 2012 Citation: Mouna B, Belbaraka R, Boutayeb S, Errihani H (2012) The Efficacy of Chemotherapy against Metastatic Malignant Phyllodes Tumors of the Breast. Bone metastasis from malignant phyllodes breast tumor: report of two cases
BACKGROUND Phyllodes tumors are rare fibroepithelial tumors accounting for less than 1 % of all breast neoplasms. They are malignant in 20 % of cases. Only a few cases of malignant phyllodes tumors metastatic to bone have been reported. CASE PRESENTATION Case 1: A 40 year-old white woman presented with three-week history of pain and functional impairment of the left lower limb. Her clinical p...

Phyllodes tumors of the breast (PTB), also termed phyllodes tumors, are rare tumors (<0.5% of all breast tumors), comprised of both stromal and epithelial elements. They are graded by the use of a set of histologic features into benign, borderline, and malignant subtypes. The mainstay of treatment of non-metastatic phyllodes tumors of the breast is complete surgical resection with wide resectio...

Background: Phyllodes tumor (PT) of the breast in Hispanic patients is more frequently reported with large tumors and with more borderline/malignant subtypes compared with other populations. The objective of this study was to describe characteristics of patients with PT and to identify differences among subtypes in a Mexican population. <...

Phyllodes tumors are biphasic fibroepithelial neoplasms of the breast. While the surgical management of these relatively uncommon tumors has been addressed in the literature, few reports have commented on the surgical approach to tumors greater than ten centimetres in diameter – the giant phyllodes tumor. We report a case of giant breast tumors and discuss the techniques utilized for pre-...

Malignant phyllodes tumor is a rare breast malignancy with sarcomatous overgrowth and with limited effective treatment options for recurrent and metastatic cases. Recent clinical trials indicated a potential for anti-angiogenic, anti-EGFR and immunotherapeutic approaches for patients with sarcomas, which led us to investigate these and other targetable pathways in malignant phyllodes tumor of t...
